Call of Duty: Warzone makes a strong first impression by combining responsive Modern Warfare gunplay with a large, varied map and unusually fast match pacing. Its streamlined looting, contracts, cash economy, loadout drops, and Gulag give the familiar battle-royale formula a distinct identity, while frequent firefights keep most matches engaging. The custom-loadout system reduces the improvisational tension that makes scavenging compelling, however, and Plunder is considerably less exciting than the main battle-royale mode. Overall, Warzone is an accessible, high-energy battle royale whose clever respawn mechanics and polished shooting outweigh its uneven secondary mode and occasional loss of survivalist tension.
