Review consensus

Celeste combines exceptionally precise platforming with a thoughtful story about anxiety, depression, persistence, and self-acceptance. Its compact move set expands into remarkably inventive challenges through strong level design, environmental mechanics, frequent checkpoints, and instant retries that make repeated failure instructive rather than punitive. The pixel-art presentation, expressive character work, and Lena Raine’s dynamic soundtrack give each chapter a distinct atmosphere. The difficulty is demanding, and some mechanics—particularly wind sections—can interrupt the otherwise excellent flow, but Assist Mode makes the experience unusually accommodating. Optional collectibles, B-Sides, and post-game content provide substantial challenges beyond the heartfelt main campaign.
