Review consensus
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a polished, approachable action RPG that successfully revitalizes BioWare’s formula while moving decisively away from the series’ more tactical roots. Reviewers consistently praise its excellent presentation, vivid environments, accessible combat, strong character creator, and appealing companion cast. Its biggest weaknesses are equally consistent: the writing lacks the nuance and moral complexity of earlier Dragon Age games, meaningful choices are relatively limited, enemy encounters can become repetitive, and Rook is a less compelling protagonist than previous heroes. Overall, it is an enjoyable and technically refined adventure, though a less ambitious and dramatically layered Dragon Age.
