Review consensus
Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined successfully modernizes one of the series’ most notoriously lengthy adventures with faster opening pacing, streamlined progression, flexible difficulty and useful quality-of-life features. Its time-traveling island anthology remains charming, emotionally varied and full of Dragon Quest personality, while the diorama-like visuals, orchestral soundtrack and playful localization are standout strengths. However, the episodic structure can still feel meandering, with uneven story chapters, recurring backtracking and relatively basic combat. Content cuts and easier tuning may disappoint returning fans, but for newcomers and players seeking a more approachable classic JRPG, this is a polished and highly enjoyable reimagining.
