Review consensus
DREDGE turns a straightforward fishing-and-upgrade loop into an unusually effective cosmic-horror adventure. Its strongest qualities are the satisfying progression, compact exploration, varied fishing grounds, and constant tension created by the day-night cycle: staying out late offers valuable catches but exposes the boat to increasingly dangerous supernatural threats. Critics consistently praised the game’s atmosphere, distinctive presentation, and ability to balance relaxation with unease. The narrative and progression can be opaque, while repetitive travel, fiddly inventory management, rapid time passage, and occasional difficulty spikes temper the experience. Even so, DREDGE’s focused scope and memorable premise make it a compelling, atmospheric indie adventure.
