Review consensus

It Takes Two is an exceptionally inventive co-op adventure built around constant cooperation, with Cody and May receiving complementary abilities that make puzzles, platforming and boss encounters feel genuinely collaborative. Critics consistently praised its remarkable variety: environments, mechanics and even gameplay genres change frequently, while optional minigames add personality and replayable diversions. The colorful presentation and accessible controls make it welcoming to less experienced players. Its main weaknesses are uneven writing, occasionally irritating character performances and a relationship narrative that can feel abrupt or overly sentimental. Even so, Hazelight’s creativity and commitment to two-player design make this one of the standout modern co-op games.
