Review consensus
Lost Ark impresses most through its spectacular, highly customizable combat, enormous battles, varied environments, and unusually ambitious sense of scale. Its best moments combine ARPG crowd-clearing with MMO-style dungeons, raids, and grand cinematic set pieces. However, the experience is weakened by repetitive fetch quests, a generic story, flat difficulty during much of the campaign, forgettable loot, and progression systems that can feel deliberately grindy. Critics also objected to its microtransaction emphasis and, at launch, server queues. Despite these drawbacks, the combat and breadth of endgame content make Lost Ark a compelling free-to-play MMO for players willing to tolerate its dated conventions.
