Review consensus
Mario & Luigi: Brothership successfully modernizes the series with expressive animation, inventive island exploration, timing-based combat, Luigi Logic, and the flexible Battle Plug system. Its heartfelt story and consistently playful humor give the adventure considerable charm, while the variety of environments and boss encounters keeps the core journey engaging. However, the lengthy campaign exposes significant pacing problems: ocean travel can drag, random encounters and combat become repetitive, and several middle and late-game sections feel overextended. Performance dips and Luigi’s reduced role in exploration also weaken the classic two-brothers identity. It is a polished, enjoyable RPG whose ambition occasionally works against it.
