Review consensus

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond successfully revives the series’ defining strengths: atmospheric first-person exploration, rewarding environmental scanning, inventive progression, and memorable boss encounters. Critics consistently praised its alien environments, visual presentation, melancholic worldbuilding, and strong core metroidvania design. However, the broader structure is less successful. The Sol Valley overworld can feel empty and tedious to traverse, psychic abilities are sometimes awkward to operate, and Federation companions occasionally undermine the series’ isolation. The game’s controversial save behavior after the finale also weakens completionist play. Beyond is a polished, compelling return that often feels excellent inside its major areas, but uneven when experimenting beyond Prime’s established formula.
