Review consensus
Nine Sols is a standout Metroidvania built around exceptionally responsive, Sekiro-inspired parries, deflections, aerial counters, and talisman attacks. Critics consistently praised its thrilling combat, inventive and varied boss encounters, striking hand-drawn taopunk art direction, atmospheric soundtrack, and surprisingly compelling science-fiction story about revenge, identity, and posthumanism. Its biggest weaknesses are demanding difficulty, occasional visual clutter during boss fights, uneven pacing, and map progression that can leave players unsure where to go next. Some reviewers also objected to its immature fat-shaming humor. Despite these flaws, Nine Sols delivers one of the genre’s most satisfying combat systems and a memorable world.
