Review consensus

Onimusha: Way of the Sword successfully revives Capcom’s samurai series with weighty, responsive swordplay built around parries, deflections, stamina management, soul absorption, and demanding Issen counters. Reviewers consistently praise the combat’s satisfying timing and the game’s striking presentation, including its use of Toshiro Mifune’s likeness as Miyamoto Musashi. The experience is less consistent outside battle: the tone shifts between serious drama and goofy humor, the difficulty curve wobbles, and the hub activities, upgrade economy, repeated bosses, and late-game pacing can feel padded. Even so, its excellent combat and accessible structure make it a strong modern comeback.
