Review consensus
Persona 5 Royal is widely regarded as the definitive version of Atlus’s stylish modern JRPG. Critics consistently praise its seamless blend of turn-based combat, dungeon exploration, calendar-based social simulation, memorable characters, expressive art direction, and exceptional soundtrack. Royal’s new third semester, additional characters, expanded Palaces, and quality-of-life improvements strengthen an already outstanding adventure, while the revised ending gives the story greater emotional and thematic weight. The main drawbacks are its substantial 100-plus-hour length, occasional uneven writing, and the steep value proposition for players who already completed the original Persona 5. For newcomers, however, Royal is the preferred and most complete edition.
