Review consensus
Star Wars: The Old Republic delivers a polished, highly accessible MMO built around BioWare-style storytelling. Its eight class campaigns, extensive voice acting, companions, memorable choices, and strong production values give leveling an unusually compelling narrative focus. Combat is familiar rather than innovative, while the world can feel linear, instanced, and occasionally empty. PvP is enjoyable but limited at launch, and its on-rails space missions are a notable missed opportunity. Even so, the combination of a richly realized Star Wars setting and substantial character-driven content makes it an especially effective story-focused MMORPG, despite relying heavily on established genre conventions.
