Review consensus
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth turns a disturbing premise, grotesque humor, and religious imagery into an exceptionally replayable roguelike shooter. Its tight twin-stick combat, randomized rooms, huge item pool, varied enemies, secrets, unlockable characters, and multiple endings make each run feel meaningfully different. The remake also improves on the original with a smoother engine and expanded content. Its permadeath, opaque item effects, and deliberately abrasive imagery can be frustrating or off-putting, but the strong controls and constant possibility of discovering a powerful new combination keep failure compelling. Rebirth is chaotic, challenging, deeply weird, and remarkably durable.
