Critics consistently praised its emotional storytelling and visual overhaul, while noting that the unchanged level design and largely familiar gameplay reveal their PS3-era roots. The remake also omits the original’s multiplayer mode and launched at a contentious price, making it difficult to recommend to returning players at full cost. For newcomers, however, it is the most polished way to experience Naughty Dog’s landmark story.
