Review consensus

Code Vein 2 expands the series with a semi-open world, time-travel structure, deeper build customization, and a more versatile partner system. Its combat has satisfying flexibility through Blood Codes, Forma, Jails, and weapon variety, while select character-focused boss encounters provide genuine emotional and mechanical impact. However, the sequel is undermined by repetitive enemies, uninspired environments, padded dungeons, weak exposition-heavy storytelling, and technical problems including frame-rate drops and inconsistent hit detection. The lack of multiplayer is also a notable regression from the original. Critics generally view it as a functional but mediocre Soulslike that rarely realizes its ambitious ideas.
