Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a warmly crafted spiritual successor to Suikoden, succeeding most clearly through its enormous roster of recruitable characters, politically driven war story, attractive 2D-HD presentation, and satisfying headquarters development. Critics generally enjoyed the traditional turn-based combat, character customization, boss gimmicks, and side activities, though the experience is held back by archaic design decisions, uneven pacing, excessive menu management, tedious recruitment errands, and shallow army battles. Technical performance is also a significant concern on Switch. It is an appealing, sometimes excellent throwback for classic JRPG fans, but its nostalgia-driven structure can feel unnecessarily cumbersome.
