Review consensus
The Sinking City 2 is a substantial improvement over its predecessor, trading open-world detective work for a tighter, more focused survival-horror structure. Critics praised its oppressive Lovecraftian atmosphere, interconnected locations, puzzle-heavy exploration, resource management, and more responsive combat, with clear influences from Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Its investigative mechanics are reduced to a supporting role, while crafting and inventory restrictions can feel unnecessarily cumbersome. The campaign is also relatively short, and the finale reportedly arrives too quickly. Even so, Frogwares delivers an effective, occasionally unsettling horror adventure with memorable environments and a stronger gameplay identity.
