Review consensus
Age of Mythology: Retold successfully modernizes a classic real-time strategy game without discarding its distinctive mythological identity. Its refreshed visuals, cleaner interface, improved pathfinding, attack-move command, and redesigned god powers make the experience more approachable while preserving the satisfying interplay between human armies, heroes, and mythical creatures. The four core civilizations remain meaningfully different, and the campaign, skirmishes, naval battles, and multiplayer provide substantial variety. However, dated-feeling campaign presentation, awkward character art, uneven voice acting, and occasional old-school design friction keep it from feeling wholly modern. It is nevertheless a strong and respectful revival for RTS veterans and newcomers.
