Review consensus
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a strong two-part package whose new Shadow campaign often outshines the remastered Sonic Generations. Sonic’s side remains fast, colorful, and nostalgic, but its 2011 design feels dated and its short campaign can seem rushed. Shadow Generations adds more inventive level layouts, a 3D hub, memorable music, and powers that create interesting timing and traversal challenges. However, some Doom abilities are awkward, controls can become overly sensitive, and the narrative is mainly effective for longtime fans. The collection is an enjoyable celebration of Sonic history, though its best ideas are not always matched by consistent execution.
