Review consensus
Subnautica 2 preserves the series’ strongest qualities: beautiful hand-crafted oceans, compelling exploration, oppressive deep-sea atmosphere, flexible base building, and a rewarding loop of gathering resources to reach more dangerous depths. Critics also appreciate the new alien world, improved visuals, optional four-player co-op, and intriguing early narrative. The main drawback is its Early Access state: the available story and map are limited, progression can feel unfinished, biomods are underdeveloped, and technical or multiplayer issues remain. It is best suited to survival fans and returning players comfortable with gradual updates, especially those who enjoy Subnautica, Grounded, or No Man’s Sky.
