Review consensus
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is an exceptionally comprehensive crossover fighter that refines the series’ responsive combat while bringing together an enormous roster, stage lineup, soundtrack, and collection of fan-service details. Critics especially praised its flexibility: it works as a chaotic party game, a demanding competitive fighter, and a substantial solo experience through World of Light, Classic Mode, and Spirit battles. Its main weaknesses are that some new stages and fighters feel less inspired than returning content, Spirit encounters can become repetitive, and unlocking the full roster takes time. Even so, Ultimate’s breadth, polish, and replayability make it the definitive Smash package.
