Yakuza: Like a Dragon successfully reinvents the series as a turn-based JRPG without losing its distinctive mixture of crime drama, absurd comedy, heartfelt characters, and lavish side content. Ichiban Kasuga and his unconventional party are widely praised for their warmth and personality, while the job system and imaginative attacks give combat a strong identity. However, the game’s lengthy setup, repetitive battles, corridor-like dungeons, uneven presentation, and occasional grinding keep the transformation from being flawless. The result is an unusually charming and ambitious RPG: an excellent new starting point for many players, though less consistently polished than the series’ best entries.
